About Starshine

I suppose it would be important to tell you a little about myself in case we have not already crossed paths and previously forged our friendship in the past.

My name is Starshine and I am a multi-faceted artist and designer currently based in St Louis, Missouri. I am a maker of believe and shiny things. I was born and raised in Denver, Colorado and went to college in St Petersburg, Florida. I got my B.A in Interdisciplinary Art from Eckerd College in 2007. My focus was poetry and visual art. I am a jack of all trades, dabbling in just about every medium, including performance art. I like to paint, draw, sew, sculpt, and make jewelry, and especially like finding ways to combine these forms together in new and unique ways. I like bright, bold colors and patterns, and gravitate toward whimsical, macabre, and sex-positive subject matter. A good portion of the things I make glow under the blacklight.

I am a freelance costume designer with work on permanent display at The Burlesque Hall of Fame Museum in Las Vegas, Nevada. I have worked with burlesque artists, drag artists, circus artists, and dance companies. I am also a burlesque and drag performer under the name Starshine Twinkletits. I love classic glamour, camp, and horror, so my acts tend to combine these elements. I have performed in Denver, St Petersburg, Chicago, Louisville, and St Louis. I worked as a stage kitten for The Colorado Burlesque Festival from 2009-2018 and performed at The Burning City Burlesque Festival in Chicago in 2018.

I am currently a member of Virtuoso Collective and St Louis Art Guild, and am a founding member of an online marketplace for handmade sex-positive items called Booti-Q. You can find my work in person at Virtuoso Collective and Shameless Grounds Coffee Shop, both in St Louis, Missouri.

Over the years as a participant in the capitalist machine, I have chosen to work in creative havens which has allowed me to meet and befriend many creative people and gain a vast array of knowledge. I have worked at The Globe Coffee Lounge in St Petersburg, Florida, Flossy McGrew’s Vintage and Costume Shop in Denver, Colorado, The Clocktower Cabaret, also in Denver, Kitchen House Coffee in St Louis, Missouri, The Crack Fox, and Shameless Grounds, also in St Louis. The networks I have built in these places have been priceless, I have met some truly remarkable humans in my 40 years on this planet and have refined an eclectic skillset in the process.

When I am not making things shinier or working myself silly (because free time, what’s that?), I enjoy snuggling my two cats, their names are BooBerry and Jillybean. I spend a lot of time being furniture for my furry overlords. I also like to travel, read, write, and research the history of textiles. I like falling down rabbit holes and wondering, and ultimately believe the Universe is like a bowl of petunias. Oh no, not again…
